Speed maths / Vedic - Part IV (Perfect Square Root )

This article is all about calculating the perfect square root.

We need to remember a few steps to calculate the perfect square root.

The steps are:

1) Take the last digit of the number for which you are going to take the square root.

2) If the last digit is 4, we have to find what number when multiplied by itself gives the last digit as 4. There must be two numbers. It's 2 and 8 because 2 * 2  we get 04 as well as 8 * 8 also we get the last digit as 64.

3) So we should take 2 and 8 to find the square root.

4)Leave out the last before the digit.

5) Take the nearest square value.

For example, if you take the number 10 the nearest square value will be 9.

6) Take the square root of 9.

Let's look at an example for finding the square root of the number.

Question no 1.

Take the number 1024.

To find the square root of the number 1024.

First, take the last digit of the number 4.

Then the second step is to find the number when multiplied by itself giving the last digit as 4.

It will be 2 and 8 right.

So as for now, we found the last digit of the square root must be _2 or _8.

Now the question is how to find the first digit of the square root of the number 1024.

So, now leaving the last before the digit is the next step.

To find the first digit of the square root. Take the nearest square value of the number 10.

It will be 9 now take the square root of the number 9 --> it's 3.

Now replace the number in the first digit.

Like 32 or 38.

Now what might be the square root of 1024.

To find that, simply multiply the next number of 3 with the number 3. Which is 3 * 4 will give us 12.

Now the number 12 is greater than 10.

So, in conclusion, we can say that if the number multiplied i.e. the number 12 is greater than 10 then we must take the answer as 32.

Question 2.

Now we will take the square root of the number 8281.

Take the last digit of the number.

Here the number ends with 1.

So the possible numbers are 1 and 9. As 1 * 1 = 01 and 9 * 9 = 81.

Therefore _1 and _9 will be the numbers to find out.

Leave the last before the digit i.e the number 8.

The next one is to take the nearest square root value of the number 82.

Here the nearest number is 81 and by taking the square root we get 9.

Therefore by replacing it we get 91 and 99.

Our aim is to multiply 9 and the next number to find which number will be the square root.

So we get 9 * 10 = 90 which is greater than 82.

Then we have to take the answer as 91.

Question 3:

Now let's solve this square root 4624.

The first is to take the last digit of the number which is 4.

So the possible numbers will be 2 and 8. As we get 2 * 2 = 04 and 8 * 8 = 64.

Then the number will be like _2 and _8.

Leave the number 2.

Then take the number 46.

Find the nearest perfect root square. Here 6 * 6 = 36.

Replace the number 6.

Then the numbers are 62 and 68.

By multiplying the next number of 6 with the number 6, we get 6 * 7 = 42.

Where the number 42 is smaller than the number 46.

Because of this, we have to take the greater number 68.

Therefore 68 will be the answer.

Question 4.

Take the square root of the number 29929.

Take the last digit 9.

So from this the possible numbers are 3 and 7. As we get 3 * 3 = 09 and 7 * 7 = 49.

By this, we can put the numbers like _3 and _7.

Leave the last before the digit i.e the number 2.

Now take the number 299.

Find the nearest perfect square.

17 * 17 = 289.

By replacing it, we get 173 and 177.

Then multiply 17 and 18 in order to find the square root of the number 29929.

17 * 18 = 306.

Here 306 is greater than the number 299.

So we have to take the number 173.

Hence it will be the answer.
